And Things Go On….

I am at a loss.  Things are quiet.  School is delayed.  I don’t have a schedule as such.  There’s the photography club lunch on Tuesday and church on Sunday.  I need more structure.  I am thinking things will be better next week.  School is still scheduled to start on Wednesday.

I will be picking Elaina up for sure.  Damion maybe, at least for the first week.  Logos starts back the next Wednesday, on September the 6th.   I have volunteered to help with the meals.  I am thinking I may start helping with the community garden on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings.  I keep thinking I should try to do the Cancer Support Group on the first Wednesday of the month at 3pm.  But it’s almost impossible with school pickups.

Tracy thinks she should get a regular job and wants me to pick up her kids from school and keep them until she gets off work. She vacillates though between getting a job now or continuing to Door Dash until Tim is able to get back to work full time.

If the older boys have sports practices and I only have to pick up Elaina, the Cancer Support Group is more feasible.

I’m also feeling called to make a cash donation on Sunday mornings.  The kids don’t see the check I mail every month and I’m feeling like I get credit for that anyway.  Doesn’t that mean that I’ve already got my reward?  Admittedly, it’s not exactly a public thing.  I mail the check with all the other bills and no one knows about it except the people who handle it. Still I get a statement from the church regularly stating how much I’ve given.  Cash in the offering plate on Sundays would be more anonymous, like our giving is supposed to be done.

I am still trying to get the credit cards paid down so I can make a larger donation.  Something closer to 10 percent.  Maybe next year.  I paid off one, then ran it back up.  It’s a never ending cycle.

Traveling in Kentucky

I find it somewhat strange that we’ve now visited all 48 contiguous states, but we haven’t seen all of Kentucky yet.  We’ve been many places in our state: Mammoth Cave, Cumberland Falls, Louisville, Bowling Green, Paducah, Red River Gorge, etc.  But there are still places we’ve missed.

This past weekend, we went to one of those places.  We visited Kingdom Come State Park and The Big South Fork Railway.  Along the way, we stayed overnight at Benham Schoolhouse Inn.  Kingdom Come State Park is named after the popular Civil War novel, “The Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come,” by Kentucky author John Fox Jr.

The park is beautiful, the railway featured a coal mine tour that was very interesting and the Inn was comfortable and nicely furnished with friendly, helpful personnel.

Onward and Upward?

Well, I finished with Discovering Fire.  Quite frankly, I was very disappointed with it.  I’ve begun “The Final Days of Jesus: the archeological evidence,” and I’m finding it much more interesting.  It seems to be mostly about the actual city of Jerusalem so far, but I’m sure it will get into more detail as it goes on.

I will be spending a good part of this week driving back and forth to Evansville to pick Elaina up from her horseback riding camp.  It may interfere somewhat with my exercise goals.  I may have to shift my routines from the afternoons to mornings.  It will make my days much more compressed. I currently spend my mornings working on the computer, reading, and doing minor housework chores.  I will find a way though.  The exercise is important, especially as we prepare for our road trip.

Today, on the way to Evansville, I’ll be stopping at Walmart (shudder) to pick up essentials for that trip, like insect repellent and sunscreen.  That will provide me an opportunity to get steps in although I’ve been told that walking around a store isn’t the same as walking for exercise.

We are still playing with our itinerary.  I’ve updated the list three times now.  I think any further changes will have to occur as we travel.  Jim says he doesn’t want to change any more reservations so it’s pretty much set, although we may adjust actual points of interest along the way.  Check out our Roadtrips blog to follow along.

Scheduling

I recently started writing out menus for the week instead of just fixing whatever comes to mind on the day.  When Chrystal was here to eat with us and use some of the leftovers for lunch, it was a daily thing.  With just the two of us and Jim not really inspired by leftovers, It’s become sort of 3 or 4 days a week with leftovers and salads in between.  I still search online for new recipes to keep inspired.

I’ve been trying to follow my scheduled routine for exercise and added new sessions.  The old schedule called for a few quick stretches and deep knee bends to strengthen my legs once a day.  I’m increasing that to three times a day and adding a Yoga session in the afternoons.  In a couple of weeks, school will be out and I won’t have a framework for activities until the fall.  I need to get into a regular routine to make up for that.  Last summer, I just sat around and I lost a lot of strength and stamina because of it.  I need to be getting that back and adding to it.

I’ve also got to set up a house cleaning schedule.  Before, it was just a random thing whenever I was in the mood.  I’m going to try scheduling it so things get done before they grate on my nerves so much I just need to fix it.  I found a list in my prayer app for Household jobs that I wrote up a while back.  It says update blogs on Monday.  That’s what I’m doing today.  The rest of it may need to be rewritten and copied to my Notebook app.  The old schedule had one thing a day, sort of a different room each day.  I’m thinking that wasn’t very practical, obviously it didn’t really work since I’d forgotten all about it.  I need to come up with something better.

Covid Continues Along with Tornadoes

We are all vaccinated, including our kids, and the adults have the booster.  Nevertheless, we feel threatened since the latest information indicates that we could still get sick from the new variants which aren’t necessarily stopped by the vaccines.

So, we are continuing to mask in public, otherwise we are behaving like it’s “back to normal.” We all had Thanksgiving Dinner at Tim and Tracy’s house and we are planning our normal Christmas Eve get together at Jeanne and David’s.  So far, none of us have gotten sick.  We are SO fortunate.

We feel that especially this week as we see all the terrible effects of the tornadoes last week.  We’ve donated money through our Christmas fund and Jeanne went to Dawson to help clean up with a group from the church.  I only wish I was strong enough to help physically, but I’m still not feeling up to par after my cancer scare this past fall.

The devastation is terrible and we still have extended family living there.  One of those families lost everything and several others have damage.  Our good fortune continued as none of our people were lost.

We thank God for our personal safety as we pray for all those who have lost everything, not only in Dawson, but through out the devastated area.
